Design Engineer Job Description
The Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of metal stamping dies and tooling used in press equipment. This role works closely with internal teams and customers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective tooling solutions that meet performance, reliability, and manufacturing requirements, while providing technical support across design and project activities.
Responsibilities- Design a wide variety of metal stamping dies in accordance with established engineering standards and specifications.
- Analyze tooling performance to identify opportunities to improve tool life, reliability, and overall efficiency in manufacturing operations.
- Develop and recommend design enhancements and corrective solutions to improve the functionality and performance of existing tooling.
- Create detailed designs and engineering blueprints in PTC Creo for tooling dies, machine components, and other mechanical systems.
- Develop complete drawing packages, including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Collaborate effectively with customers, vendors, and internal personnel while maintaining a professional and organized approach to communication and documentation.
- Provide engineering support and assist fellow engineers with design, development, and project-related activities as needed.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling design, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure that all designs comply with applicable standards, best practices, and manufacturing requirements.
- Support the integration of new tooling and fixtures into existing manufacturing processes, including the canning industry.
- 5+ years of design experience supporting tooling, manufacturing, or industrial environments.
- 4+ years of experience using PTC Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER or Pro-E) for mechanical design.
- Proficiency in creating detailed designs and engineering blueprints in Creo for tooling dies, machine components, and mechanical systems.
- Experience developing complete drawing packages, including dimensions, tolerances, GD&T, assembly drawings, detail drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Strong understanding of tool and die design principles and best practices.
- Hands-on experience designing tooling, fixtures, and mechanical components used in manufacturing operations, including applications in the canning industry.
- Ability to work with CAD tools to create 3D models and assemblies for complex tooling and mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of GD&T and its application in precision engineering drawings.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in related manufacturing or industrial sectors is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Pro/ENGINEER or Pro-E and related CAD platforms.
- Background in tool and die, tooling design, or metal stamping operations.
- Experience working with bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering documentation in a production environment.
- Exposure to international projects and global customers is an advantage.
- Interest in owning and influencing complete design projects from concept through implementation.
- Motivation to grow professionally and take on increasing responsibility over time.
The role operates in a combined manufacturing and office setting, offering exposure to both design activities and production operations. You will work with modern CAD and engineering tools, including PTC Creo, and collaborate closely with engineering, production, and external partners. The environment supports a collaborative culture with opportunities to own complete design projects, contribute directly to products and processes, and engage with global customers and international initiatives.
Standard professional office attire is expected in the office areas, with appropriate safety and protective gear used as required in manufacturing spaces.
This is a Permanent position based out of Springboro, OH.
Pay And BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
