Summary

The Pipe Foreman is responsible for the oversight of the daily activities of a construction pipe project in order to provide the most effective and productive utilization of time and materials, while ensuring the project is delivered on time, within budget and without significant safety issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Interpersonal Responsibilities
  • Serves as first point of contact for project with regards to laborers, operators, and vendors. Maintains open communications with all parties involved in project, including client, subcontractors, project managers, site manager, asset manager, superintendent, safety personnel/officials, and neighboring individuals/entities.
  • Develops strong relationships, encourages, and seeks opportunities for collaborative efforts, seeks understanding of issues, anticipates and troubleshoots problems, and resolves urgent and ongoing matters affecting the timely and safe completion of project.
  • Confers with Site Manager and Project Manager regarding activities affecting scheduling or project status in order to facilitate accurate and timely communication with client.
  • Interacts with internal Safety Directors and external Safety Auditors to ensure compliance with all safety requirements. Collaborates with Site Manager and safety personnel to schedule safety training while maintaining worker scheduling and productivity. Addresses safety concerns and escalates any major issues to Safety Director and Superintendent. Notifies Safety of accidents/injuries and equipment damage.
  • Liaises with Site Manager and Superintendent and adjusts schedules according to needs and expectations, while constantly remaining conscious of deadlines and project completion dates. Communicates schedule changes to all affected parties.
  • Confers with Project Manager on communications issues or conflicts that cannot be resolved at the project level.
  • Monitors and oversees the performance of laborers and operators, conducts performance evaluations, provides performance feedback, coordinates absences, and approves time records for such personnel. Discusses any ongoing or immediate performance/conduct concerns with Superintendent and may participate in any disciplinary actions needed.
  • Trains, coaches, and educates laborers and operators in their daily job tasks, proper preventative maintenance of tools and equipment, and the use of the equipment checklist.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other Foremen to determine the best deployment of shared manpower and equipment. Considers other Foremen as a resource and utilizes their knowledge and skill.
  • Listens to concerns of neighbors or client, provides assurances of satisfactory resolution, and relays information about issues to Superintendent/Site Manager/Project Manager.
Operational Responsibilities
  • Acquires and discusses plans, directions, supplies, resources, and schedules with Superintendent; confers with Superintendent and Site Manager on project, manpower, and equipment needs; shares information and seeks to troubleshoot any issue in advance of effect on the project. Keeps management apprised of situations creating potential delays or risk management issues.
  • Studies specifications, such as blueprints, binder, and other drawings, to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures, assesses priorities daily, and adjusts schedule or activities accordingly.
  • Ensures that operators and laborers have sufficient on-the-job training to perform their daily job tasks safely and productively, understand their responsibilities with regard to equipment maintenance and cleanliness, and are oriented to the company’s mission, philosophies, culture, and values.
  • Reviews site needs, personnel scheduling or performance/conduct issues, budgetary concerns, safety, equipment matters, and objectives daily with Superintendent in order to drive project completion in accordance with Kelchner’s standards.
