Summary of

Job Duties

Faculty shall be responsible to the dean and the Vice Chancellor for Academics with the following duties:

  • Be concerned with all aspects of teaching and student learning and provide instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the college and approved course outlines.
  • Provide assessment of student learning and use this assessment to improve instruction.
  • Acquaint students with course requirements, how grades are determined, during the first week of class and provide periodic evaluations of progress.
  • Meet classes as scheduled; follow appropriate syllabi; attend faculty, committee, and division meetings.
  • Prepare thoroughly for each class period.
  • Display professional mannerisms in conduct and appearance.
  • Hold ten office hours per week for student consultation and post the hours for students to know.
  • Serve as an advisor to students majoring in the instructor’s discipline or an assigned area.
  • Maintain accurate class rolls and attendance records and submit required reports to Student Services.
  • Emphasize the importance of prompt, regular, continuous attendance.
  • Submit names of students who may need counseling to the Vice Chancellor for Student Services.
  • Prepare and submit grade reports to the Enrollment Services office at the close of each period.
  • Accept registration duty assignments from the administration.
  • Submit curriculum changes or new curriculum to the dean for review on a timely basis.
  • Recommend textbook changes in consultation with the dean.
  • Serve as a faculty advisor and/or sponsor to student organizations when requested.
  • Report all irregularities, questions, or problems concerning instruction to the dean and/or Vice Chancellor.
  • Participate in commencement exercises in academic dress, unless excused.
  • Maintain current credentials on file with the Vice Chancellor for Academics and the Office of Human Resources.
  • Abide by regulations in the Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Attend and support the activities of the college.
  • Participate in professional activities to stay current in discipline.
  • Assume special duties assigned by the Vice Chancellor or representative.
  • Teach college political science and history courses.
  • Serve as an academic advisor.
  • Work closely with faculty, dean, tutoring staff, and other personnel to promote student success.
  • Serve on department and university committees.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Willingness to teach at Hope and/or Texarkana campuses.
Qualifications

Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in History or Political Science required. Teaching experience in this area preferred.

  • Night and weekend duties may be required.
Salary Information

Base salary: $36,000.00, commensurate with education and experience.
