The Media/Library Assistant is responsible for managing the school library, fostering a love of reading, and supporting student learning by providing access to resources, technology, and different genres of literature. This position serves as both an instructional partner and an information specialist, collaborating with teachers to integrate library and digital resources into the curriculum. Additionally, the library aide will support the school's social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives by delivering guided SEL lessons in classrooms to supplement the curriculum provided by the school guidance counselor.
Key Responsibilities Library & Instructional Duties- Manage daily operations of the library, including circulation of materials, cataloging, and inventory.
- Develop and maintain a diverse, age-appropriate collection of print and digital resources.
- Teach library and research skills to students, including digital literacy and responsible use of technology.
- Support teachers in integrating information resources and media into instruction.
- Promote reading and a love of literature through programs, book talks, and displays.
- Provide individual and group instruction on locating, evaluating, and using information effectively.
- Maintain an organized, welcoming, and safe library environment.
- Ensure technology in the media center is accessible, functional, and effectively utilized.
- Collaborate with staff to support curriculum goals and student learning outcomes.
- Supervise students using the library and reinforce school behavior expectations.
- Deliver guided SEL lessons in classrooms as scheduled, aligned with the school's SEL curriculum.
- Collaborate with the school guidance counselor to ensure consistency and reinforcement of SEL themes across grade levels.
- Use age-appropriate literature and resources to support discussions on empathy, respect, resilience, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making.
- Provide a supportive environment that fosters social-emotional growth and positive relationships.
- Assist in integrating SEL practices into library activities, including read-alouds and group projects.
- Knowledge of children's & young adult literature.
- Strong organizational, technology, and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and families.
- Familiarity with social-emotional learning frameworks and strategies (preferred).
- 7.25 hours with a 30-minute unpaid lunch.
- 188 school days, as defined by the district calendar.
- Additional time may be required for meetings, professional development, or school events.
- Hourly rate of $17.87-$24.78, based on qualifications and applicable experience.
