Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. In furthering that goal, Highlands has grown with the region from a single location 30 years ago, to 6 locations in Northwest and Northcentral Arkansas today employing more than 800 diverse team members.

What we have is something quite unique right here in our own backyard with a caring multidisciplinary team focused on treating patients like family.

The Research Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as an expert in patient assessment, clinical exam, and appropriate interventions. The APP will have extensive contact with patients, requiring collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The APP is dedicated to the provision of competent, compassionate, and ethical care of patients in the outpatient setting.

• 1. Provide quality, comprehensive care to research patients.
• 2. Provide prompt management of acute symptoms related to the disease and/or treatment.
• 3. Will have oversight/approval of research regimens, and related orders as needed.
• 4. Review and interpret laboratory values and other diagnostics.
• 5. Will attend investigator and sponsor meetings.
• 6. Review serious adverse events (SAEs).
• 7. Review inpatient records on clinical trial patients.
• 8. Participate in study safety review.
• 9. Stay current with all training requirements.
• 10. Will work independently but collaborate with physicians and investigators.
• 11. Assist research staff and study sponsors as needed.
• 12. Able to instruct patients and families on treatment course.
• 13. Act as liaison to consultants, patients, and families regarding disease state, treatment course, and overall plan of care.
• 14. Perform procedures, such as bone marrow biopsies, after appropriate training.
• 15. Prescribe medication per state licensing guidelines.
• 16. Utilizes resources such as NCCN and Up To Date .
• 17. Complies with company policies and procedures, and HIPAA regulations.
• 18. Assists in the smooth functioning of the research department in a cost-effective manner.
• 19. Shall act within the lawful limits of the Arkansas State Board of Nursing APRN Collaborative Practice Agreement, or the Arkansas State Medical Board PA Protocol.
• 20. Responsible for keeping licenses, certifications, BLS, and ACLS current.
• 21. Other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

• 1. Proficient in obtaining HPI/interval history, and medical, social, and surgical history; assessment, which includes review of systems and physical exam; and clinical impression/plan.
• 2. Proficient in EMR utilization.
• 3. Able to act with skill under stressful and/or in emergency situations.
• 4. Capable of forming effective relationships with patients, families, the public, and healthcare professionals.

• 1. The APRN or PA has one or more years of oncology experience.
• 2. Graduate from an accredited institution and has as appropriate licensure with the state of Arkansas. Maintains a current, unencumbered license(s).
• 3. Completes continuing education to maintain licensure and certification(s).
• 4. Demonstrate ongoing professional growth through participation in relevant education and associations.
• 5. Oncology certification encouraged.

• Standing and Walking:
  Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Lifting and moving patients:
  Ability to lift, move, and assist patients, often requiring more than 50 pounds.

  Must be able to push and maneuver equipment and patient transport devices.
