QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education:

    Master’s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy required.
  • Licensure:
    Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) through the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board OR Registered Art Therapist with Board Certification (ATR-BC).

    Competencies:
  • Basic knowledge of child and adolescent development, human sexuality, family dysfunction, psychology, sociology, behavior theory and trauma.
  • Pass Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Curriculum by passing the written exam, attending the full duration of training, participating and passing the required role plays, and demonstrating the full competencies up to and including the holds required.

    Possesses skill, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential duties of their role; keeps knowledge up to date.

    Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.
  • POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Art Therapist serves to facilitate skills and expressive/art therapy groups and provide care coordination for patients. Specifically, the Art Therapist develops curriculum, prepares and facilitates daily skills and expressive therapy groups using art, media, imagery, and the creative process to help patients address social, emotional, psychological, and physical challenges in the milieu. Additionally, the Art Therapist educates and supports staff in understanding and facilitating groups as needed.
