Surgical Technician

Job Summary:

The SMH Level 4 Surgical Technician provides skilled assistance in the Operating Room (OR) across a broad range of surgical specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, plastics, urology, cardiac, neuro, vascular, ophthalmic, gynecology, ENT, thoracic, oral-maxillofacial, and trauma at a level 1 trauma center. The role involves preparing the OR, scrubbing in to assist surgeons, and supporting complex procedures including those using robotic systems and transplant surgeries.

The Surgical Tech ensures adherence to sterile techniques and patient safety protocols in a fast-paced environment.

• Prepare and maintain the sterile field in the operating room.
• Assist surgeons and surgical staff by passing instruments and supplies during procedures.
• Set up surgical equipment including robotic systems such as DaVinci robots.
• Ensure all surgical instruments are sterilized and accounted for before, during, and after surgery.
• Support multiple surgical specialties including trauma, transplant, and general surgery.
• Participate in patient care activities related to surgical procedures, ensuring safety and sterility.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate efficient surgical workflow.

• NBSTSA Certification or a minimum of 10 years' experience as a Surgical Technician.
• At least two (2) years of surgical tech experience, preferably in a level 1 trauma operating room.
• Ability to scrub in during surgical procedures.
• BLS Certification from the American Heart Association.
• Strong knowledge of sterile techniques and operating room protocols.

• Experience working with DaVinci robotic surgical systems.
• Prior experience in transplant surgery environments.
• Familiarity with multiple surgical specialties and trauma care procedures.

• Must be able to work 12-hour shifts including day, evening, and night rotations.
• Experience in a high-acuity, level 1 trauma center setting is highly preferred.
• Must adhere to strict sterile and safety protocols in the operating room.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic surgical environment.

• 12-hour rotating shifts covering day, evening, and night schedules.
• Shift schedule may accommodate up to 48 hours per week.
• Rotating shifts require flexibility and availability for weekends and holidays.
