Machine Tool Calibration Technician

We are seeking a skilled Machine Tool Calibration Technician to support our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility by maintaining the accuracy, alignment, and performance of CNC machine tools and precision manufacturing equipment.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring machine tool accuracy, process capability, and equipment reliability by performing machine calibration, geometric verification, precision alignment, and troubleshooting of advanced CNC equipment used to manufacture aerospace components.

The Machine Tool Calibration Technician is responsible for calibrating, leveling, aligning, and verifying the geometric accuracy of CNC machine tools and associated manufacturing equipment. This position partners with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Maintenance to ensure equipment consistently produces parts within engineering and customer specifications. The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, precision measurement skills, and extensive knowledge of CNC machine geometry, machine alignment, and calibration techniques.

Work Schedule 1st Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM

Overtime may be required to support production schedules, machine installations, planned maintenance, and equipment recovery activities.

  • Perform machine geometry inspections and calibration of 5-axis CNC lathes, mills, and machining centers.
  • Level, align, and verify machine tool accuracy during installation, relocation, preventive maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Perform ball bar analysis, laser calibration, spindle alignment, rotary axis verification, backlash compensation, and machine positioning accuracy checks.
  • Utilize precision metrology equipment including Renishaw Ballbar systems, laser calibration systems, electronic precision levels, dial indicators, granite squares, and other alignment equipment to verify machine performance.
  • Perform complete machine tool geometric inspections and requalification following repairs, spindle replacement, ball screw replacement, machine relocation, or crash recovery.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and acceptance of new machine tools while verifying compliance with OEM specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machine accuracy, repeatability, and positioning issues while working with Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, and OEM service technicians to restore machine capability.
  • Develop and execute preventive calibration schedules to maintain machine accuracy and reliability.
  • Interpret machine geometry reports, OEM specifications, engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and technical documentation.
  • Support capability studies, first article inspections, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives related to machine accuracy.
  • Coordinate corrective actions when machine performance falls outside established tolerances.
  • Maintain calibration schedules and documentation in accordance with FAA regulations, AS9100 quality standards, and company procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records within SAP or other computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits by maintaining complete and accurate calibration documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while complying with all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S), OSHA, FAA, and company policies.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Associate degree or Technical Trade School certification in Precision Machining, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metrology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Experience calibrating and maintaining 5-axis CNC lathes, mills, and machining centers.
  • Experience with CNC machine tools from OEMs including OM Ltd., Dah Lih, Ikegai, Mazak, DMG MORI, or other equivalent precision machine tool manufacturers.
  • Experience using Renishaw Ballbar systems, Renishaw XL-80 Laser System (or equivalent), API Laser Tracker, electronic precision levels, and other machine tool calibration equipment.
