As DSA grows, this role may expand to include supervision of a full-time Marketing & Communications Coordinator.

Core Responsibilities

1) Strategy, Planning & Performance

  • Build annual and campaign-based marketing plans for DSA events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Create and maintain simple, usable marketing systems and SOPs to ensure consistency and efficiency.
  • Track key performance metrics across email, web, social, and campaigns; provide a monthly snapshot to the Executive Director.
  • Use insights to refine messaging, channel strategy, timing, and budget allocation.

2) Brand, Messaging & Content Quality

  • Maintain brand consistency across all communications and marketing materials.
  • Edit/proof key materials for clarity, tone, accuracy, and visual alignment.
  • Coordinate translation of priority outreach materials into Spanish and Marshallese as needed.

3) Digital Channels Oversight (Social, Email, Website)

Social (Oversight + Direction):

  • Oversee DSA’s presence on Facebook and Instagram (and other platforms as needed).
  • Manage the social media contractor: set priorities, review/approve content, and ensure brand alignment.
  • Step in during peak moments (events/campaigns) to capture/post timely content when needed.
  • Monitor performance and incorporate insights into monthly reporting.

Email / Newsletter:

  • Oversee the weekly newsletter produced by an intern (editing, approvals, and basic performance review).
  • Manage newsletter ad placements/sponsor deliverables as applicable.
  • Track basic email metrics (open rate, click rate, growth) and identify improvements.

Website & Event Listings:

  • Keep DSA web properties accurate and current (events, initiatives, calls-to-action, partner info).
  • Maintain event listings across DSA channels and key community calendars.
  • Support and coordinate use of tools such as event calendar plugins, CRM/email systems, and texting tools.

4) Media, Promotions & Partnerships

  • Draft and distribute press releases and key media communications for major events/announcements.
  • Coordinate advertising, promotional partnerships, and campaign deliverables (including sponsor fulfillment).
  • Collaborate with internal team and community partners to amplify downtown initiatives.

5) Event Marketing Support

  • Lead marketing support for DSA-hosted events, including campaign planning and promotional timelines.
  • Coordinate production of essential event marketing assets (signage, maps, flyers, banners) as needed.
  • Attend select events for real-time coverage and coordination.

6) Team & Contractor Coordination

  • Supervise the newsletter intern and provide training, feedback, and clear weekly priorities.
  • Manage contractors (social media, photo/video, design) including scope, timelines, and approvals.
  • Contribute to planning and tracking within the marketing/event budget.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of marketing/communications experience (nonprofit, civic, tourism, or community-focused work, a plus).
  • Strong writing/editing skills and an eye for brand consistency.
  • Experience managing digital channels (especially social and email) and interpreting basic analytics.
  • Comfortable creating and maintaining simple systems, checklists, and repeatable workflows.
  • Proficiency with common tools (Canva, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, Dropbox) and familiarity with CRM/email platforms (e.g., Hub Spot, Textedly) preferred.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Personal Characteristics
  • Strategic but practical—able to plan and execute.
  • Organized, detail-aware, and dependable with deadlines.
  • Collaborative and service-oriented with downtown businesses and partners.
  • Creative, adaptable, and calm during high-visibility event weeks.
