Position: Wound Care Nurse/ Infection Control (must be RN)

Position Summary

The Wound Care Coordinator reports to and receives general direction from the Director of Nursing and is responsible for delivering quality wound care and preventative measures to maintain skin integrity to assigned residents in compliance with applicable federal and state guidelines and established policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions
  • Utilizes the nursing process and demonstrates appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of residents' wound and skin integrity.
  • Collects and documents residents’ skin status, including medical history.
  • Performs wound care prevention through the plan of care.
  • Sets priorities for nursing action for wound care and prevention.
  • Communicates with physicians regarding resident wound needs.
  • Initiates nutritional interventions to ensure residents with wounds receive nutrition to promote healing.
  • Performs direct resident care utilizing established procedures, policies, and standards.
  • Administers treatments and procedures in accordance with the physician’s orders.
  • Maintains the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident while performing treatments.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively, courteously, and tactfully with residents, visitors, family members, peers, and supervisors.
  • Conducts rounds frequently to ensure residents with incontinence receive pericare and preventative ointments in a timely manner; disciplines non‑compliant staff accordingly with consultation from the DON.
  • Performs duties in a safe manner in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Performs all job responsibilities according to prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves, and proper disposal of soiled material.
Education / Experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (must be Registered Nurse).
  • Must possess a current and unencumbered Registered Nurse License in the state where the facility resides (or hold a compact license).
