Airport Field Unit Leader – Building Examination
This position supervises maintenance and repair work on airport equipment, facilities, and buildings. The leader assists with assignment of work, orders equipment and supplies, manages work orders, and supervises maintenance workers on runway, taxiway, ramp, and airport‑owned facilities tasks during summer and winter seasons.
Key responsibilities include monitoring and inspecting crews, job sites, and daily work assignments. The leader assigns work tasks, completes Alternative and Online Dispute Resolutions, communicates with the Control Tower, operates computers and utilizes standard as well as customized software packages, and oversees HVAC system operations including hot water boiler, air handlers, rooftop AC, and HV units. They also work with shop floor equipment (metal brake, band saw, metal shear) and handle all hand and power tools used in maintenance.
In addition, they interpret mechanical blueprints and plumbing isometric drawings and perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid State of Ohio Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License.
- One year of supervisory experience and experience with a work‑order management system (WEBTMA) preferred.
- Must pass a TSA 10‑Year fingerprint‑based Criminal History Records Check, employment background check, and Security Threat Assessment.
- Must be able to lift and carry 60 pounds and work any shift, including overtime during snow season.
- Two years of commercial maintenance experience and two years of commercial HVAC mechanical maintenance experience preferred.
Veterans’ preference is awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214 must be presented at the time of filing the examination application. An additional five (5) points is added to the raw score for an honorable discharge; ten (10) points for service‑connected disability exceeding fifteen percent.
CMSDPreference Credit
An applicant who is a graduate of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and participates in an open competitive entrance‑level examination may receive an additional five (5) points upon achieving a passing score, provided proof of graduation is submitted with the application.
