Overview
Position Scope NACG are seeking an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (Off-Road) with Service Truck (Direct Service Provider) to join our remote mining site team in the Fort McMurray area.
This is your opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contracts in the region. For this role, NACG offers a combined gross rate of up to $135/hour with room for growth.
Where You’ll Be Working- Site:
Ruth Lake - Schedule:
14 x 14, 12 hour days (paid for 11.5 hours). Days/Nights. - Accommodations:
Camp is not provided. - Transportation:
Bussing is provided from Fort McMurray to site (before and after shifts). - Overtime:
Provided after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week.

- PPE provided; just bring your own CSA certified steel-toed boots
- Room for growth and future advancements
- Complete repairs on CAT/Komatsu/Hitachi equipment of all sizes.
- Work closely with peers in both maintenance and operations.
- Preventative maintenance and servicing of all equipment.
- Evaluate equipment performance and inspect to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Troubleshoot systems – hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of all equipment and determine faults and extent of repair.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
- Mobilization of equipment for maintenance and repair.
- Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment to be repaired.
- Order required repair parts, complete reports and fill out work orders.
- Teach and evaluate apprentices and mentor mechanics.
- Follow NACG codes of practice and Safe Operating Procedures.
- Other maintenance duties as assigned.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience post Journeyman certification on large Haul Trucks/Dozers/Graders and Excavators.
- Possess excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and abilities.
- Capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Exhibit professional work behaviors.
- Committed to continuous learning.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications.
- Demonstrate leadership skills in daily work interaction.
- A valid Alberta Journeyperson Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman (Off Road).
- Experience with Cat SIS is an asset.
- Previous experience on a Safety Sensitive work site is an asset.
- Current CVIP and Picker Inspection.
- Oxygen/acetylene cabinets that meet OH&S requirements.
- Full complement of tools for repairing Off Road Equipment.
- $5 million liability insurance commercial + auto.
