Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration Technician
to join our team. Depending on experience and certification, this role may be filled at the
Operator Ior
Operator II
level. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to support safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Operator I:
Experienced technician capable of daily rounds, preventive maintenance, and supporting safe system operation. - Operator II
:
Advanced technician capable of troubleshooting, leading PMs/repairs, and supporting system optimization and PSM/RMP compliance.
Schedule:Saturday 7:30 am-3:30pm, Sunday-Wednesday 5:00pm to finish. Must be flexible with scheduling needs.
Starting Hourly Rate:$25.00/hr or DOE
We are especially interested in Operator II-level candidates, but will consider strong Operator I candidates ready to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily rounds: record pressures, temperatures, oil levels, defrost cycles, and system trends.
- Start, stop, and monitor compressors, pumps, evaporators, and condensers; ensure proper operation per SOPs.
- Respond to alarms and support troubleshooting of mechanical/electrical issues; elevate complex issues.
- Complete preventive maintenance and minor repairs; assist with overhauls, valve replacements, and seal work depending on skill level.
- Support optimization of system performance, including setpoints, sequencing, and defrost strategies (Operator II focus).
- Maintain accurate logs, PM records, and shift handoffs in CMMS; ensure documentation is audit-ready.
- Follow and enforce safety practices: PPE, LOTO, confined space, hot work, and ammonia handling protocols.
- Participate in PSM/RMP activities (MOC, incident investigation, PHAs, emergency response drills).
- Mentor junior team members and promote safe, efficient practices.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in engine room and mechanical spaces.
Required (both levels):
- High school diploma or GED.
- EPA 608 Universal certification preferred
- 2+ years’ experience in industrial refrigeration, ammonia preferred.
- Ability to work in cold environments, climb ladders/stairs, and lift up to 50 lbs.

preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months). - 4+ years of ammonia refrigeration experience, with advanced troubleshooting and system optimization skills.
- Familiarity with IIAR standards, PSM/RMP program requirements, and contractor/vendor coordination.
