Job Purpose or Scope

Bus Drivers are responsible for the safe and timely operation of a public transit bus. They drive specific routes according to a set time schedule, perform bus inspections, operate wheelchair lifts, ensure bikes are properly secured on the bike racks, make public address announcements, answer questions regarding route and time schedules in a pleasant, courteous and helpful attitude, monitor and report passenger movements.

They must exercise prudent judgment during onboard vehicle operations and failures.

• Prefer high school diploma or GED equivalent
• A current Commercial Driver’s License class “B” license with Passenger Endorsement (P) and Air Brakes endorsement
• All required driver training and licensing to be completed within the first 90 days of employment
• Current medical certification by an approved medical professional as required by the USDOT

• Must be fluent in the English language (speak, read, write)
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus but not required
• Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions
• Basic math skills
• Requires sitting for long periods while operating bus
• Ability to operate vehicle equipment
• Effectively read a map or GPS
• Must assist passengers in wheelchairs by securing wheelchair while on bus
• Provide passengers with general information of routes and schedules
• Attention to detail is essential
• Must have basic understanding of and sensitivity to special service needs
• Must meet all Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). including criminal background requirements for safety-sensitive positions
