Schedule:

Full‑time, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Compensation: $36.90 per hour

What You'll Be Doing
  • Performs complex ergonomic surveys and investigations to draw scientific conclusions from industrial risk hazards.
  • Interprets technical topics and applies methodologies related to biomechanics, physiology, human factors, and engineering technologies to derive controls preventing injury and illness.
  • Identifies applicable regulatory and non‑regulatory standards during inspection and evaluation of safety programs to ensure compliance.
  • Prepares written and oral reports of investigations for audiences including labor, engineering, and senior management; counsels with employers, union representatives and management to inform policy development and negotiation.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with safety consultants, engineering staff, and management to provide service.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an undergraduate core program in industrial engineering or physical/natural sciences.
  • Minimum 12 months of experience in the private sector or other governmental agency performing equivalent duties to Ergonomist 2, 24512.
  • One course or 3 months of experience in technical writing.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Alternative: 12 months as Ergonomist 2, 24512 plus technical writing and driver's license, or equivalent minimum qualifications.

    Industrial and construction safety practices; public relations; human relations; BWC policies and procedures; interviewing techniques; industrial engineering; physical science (physics, chemistry); ergonomics; state and federal industrial safety standards, laws and regulations; investigation principles and techniques; technical writing; safety training.
  • Skills:

    Operating PC and computer software; operating testing equipment such as heat‑stress meters, octave band analyzers, motion analysis equipment, inclinometers, light meters, velocimeters, sling psychrometers.
  • Ability:
    Deal with many variables; write complex technical reports; read and record figures; calculate fractions, decimals and percentages; use statistical analysis; recognize safety warnings; comprehend sentences; copy material accurately; proofread; maintain accurate records; prepare concise reports; gather, collate, classify data; communicate effectively orally and in writing; handle sensitive inquiries.
Working Conditions
  • Non‑standard work hours and occasional overnight travel (25–75% travel).
  • Ability to provide own transportation or legally operate a state‑owned vehicle.
  • Frequent exposure to noise, dirt, temperature extremes, industrial hazards, and occasional toxic substances, caustics, carcinogens; frequent static work postures.
