Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the mechanical design of automated fulfillment center projects and lead cross‑functional engineering teams from concept to completion.
  • Manage multiple projects and engineers, making strategic decisions, coordinating with stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration with other building systems, and developing team capabilities.
  • Lead the selection and specification of conveyor types, third‑party equipment, and systems across projects.
  • Coordinate with electrical, controls, and structural engineering teams to produce integrated designs.
  • Provide strategic direction and final approval on mechanical design decisions.
  • Allocate resources and assign projects to engineers based on complexity and development needs.
  • Develop and manage mechanical engineering project plans, schedules, deliverables, and ways of working.
  • Lead coordination with internal and external construction teams to minimize layout conflicts and ensure efficient installation.
  • Maintain communication with on‑site construction teams, clients, and senior leadership.
  • Make high‑level decisions to resolve complex field issues and project challenges.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers; review and approve calculations and designs; set technical standards and best practices.
  • Lead technical problem‑solving for complex or novel design challenges and conduct performance reviews.
  • Ensure all mechanical designs meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards; implement quality control measures and design standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance efficiency, and drive innovation; capture lessons learned and represent the team in strategic planning.
  • Enter and peer review orders for mechanical equipment, ensuring accurate and timely releases to manufacturing.
  • Review and approve 2D customer approval and installation layout drawings; validate spatial analysis of clearance envelopes and egress pathways; review and approve system and component‑level calculations.
  • Travel to sites as needed to conduct audits, resolve complex issues, and support teams.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning activities across multiple projects; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of design and innovation experience, research and development work
  • Experience in management of engineering design projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent foreign degree
  • Proficiency with business and technical software such as MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software
  • Preferred: 5+ years of specialized experience with progressive responsibility
  • Preferred:
    Master’s degree in Engineering (any domain), Operations, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Knowledge of system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, reliability analysis, electronic system design, and decision making
  • Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, high‑speed manufacturing, and design‑in‑safety
  • Ability to think strategically about overall systems and translate them into detailed requirements for the team
