The Accounting Assistant assists with day-to-day accounting, monthly closings and general ledger account reconciliations and supports the Finance Director to ensure financial statements are accurate and submitted monthly to the Board of Directors on a timely basis. Prepare and record daily and monthly journal entries, including recurring and auto-reversing journal entries. Assist with special projects requiring basic knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business or Finance with minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience with accrual accounting, or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles.
- General knowledge of finance regulations.
- Good math skills and the ability to spot numerical errors.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information.
- Ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and the use of automated and integrated payroll, accounting databases and HRIS systems required.
- Must be able to complete YMCA required training as scheduled by management.
