We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Sales & Payroll Tax Specialist to join our accounting team. This role is responsible for preparing and filing monthly sales tax returns in 40+ states and applicable local jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with all tax regulations. The position will also assist with quarterly payroll tax filings and support general accounting duties, including payroll processing.
This is an in-office position based out of our headquarters in Springfield, Illinois.
- A minimum of 2 years of work experience with multi-state sales tax filings.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with payroll tax filings or payroll processing is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of tax compliance rules and filing platforms/portals.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/tax software.
- Demonstrated excellence with attention to detail, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet recurring deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

- Ability to manage high-volume, multi-state workload

- Confidentiality and professionalism
- Prepare, review, and file monthly sales and use tax returns across 40+ states and local jurisdictions.
- Maintain a calendar of filing deadlines and ensure timely and accurate submissions.
- Reconcile sales tax liability accounts monthly.
- Respond to notices, inquiries, and audits from tax authorities.
- Monitor state/local tax law changes that may affect compliance.
- Maintain exemption certificates and support customers or internal teams with tax-related questions.
- Assist with quarterly payroll tax filings (federal, state, and local).
- Perform payroll processing tasks, including data entry, reconciliation, and review of payroll reports.
- Support general accounting functions such as journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities.
- Assist with process documentation and continuous improvement efforts.

$60,000 – $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Organization Structure and InterfacesYou will be a member of the accounting team and you will report to the Accounting Manager who reports to the Director of Accounting and Corporate Taxation. You will interact with LRS Senior leadership, team members, sales managers, account executives, customers, and vendors in completing the tasks of your role. This position is onsite based at our corporate headquarters in Springfield, Illinois.
