Position Overview:

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is hiring an Accountant for the Office of Mines and Minerals. The role will work directly with Comptroller staff to resolve financial obligations and payment problems; plan the use of the Accounting Information System (AIS); prepare and update monthly expenditure analysis reports; monitor and reconcile office attendance and time‑keeping records to PAS records.

Essential Functions:

• Review financial accounting records for the Office of Mines and Minerals.
• Prepare, examine, and analyze complex statements and reports for the Programmatic Time Report.
• Analyze budget needs and write federal grant applications for simplified grants covering administrative emergency costs for one year and construction costs for three years.
• Advise staff on proper procedures and rules of the State Statutes Comptroller’s Office and CMS, prepares or audits contracts.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the enumerated duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of a four‑year college degree with courses in business administration and accounting, or four years of technical accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Elementary knowledge of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines, and equipment.
• Two (2) years of experience performing detailed work involving written or numerical data and making arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately, manually or by machine.
• Elementary knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations relating to State or non‑state accounting or auditing procedures.
• Two (2) years of experience creating and maintaining Excel spreadsheets and workbooks.
• Two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Two (2) years of work experience with accounting software.
