The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking to hire an Accountant. This position will establish and maintain Accounts Payable accounts for the agencies serviced by Public Safety Shared Services. In addition, this position will reconcile SAP and Comptroller system reports, answer technical inquiries regarding accounting requirements and practices, serve as lead worker, and respond to management inquiries. The ideal candidate would be self‑motivated, task oriented, and organized.

• Establishes and maintains Accounts Payable accounts for the agencies serviced by Public Safety Shared Services.
• Reconciles SAP and Comptroller system reports.
• Answers high technical and complex inquiries regarding accounting requirements and practices for Accounts Payable systems and requirement.
• Serves as designated lead worker.
• Responds to management inquiries.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in business administration and accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
• Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

• Prefers at least five (5) years of professional accounting and/or auditing experience.
• Prefers intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and/or similar types of computer programs.
