Serves as the agency GAAP Coordinator working under the Chief Fiscal Office in our Springfield, IL office location. Directs and coordinates financial reporting for the Department of Labor. Responsible for completion of converting financial information from cash to either modified accrual or accrual basis to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including Fee Imposition reporting, quarterly Accounts Receivable, and Tax Expenditures reporting.
Prepares written entries to journalize amounts in accordance with the Comptroller’s Statewide Accounting Management System (SAMS) procedure manual. Collaborates with IDOL leadership to provide independent oversight of financial reporting, risk management, and audit functions to strengthen accountability, transparency, and public trust and to identify and evaluate significant exposures and risks to IDOL, contributing to the improvement of internal control systems, and to promote risk-informed decision‑making by leadership.
Functions
- Directs and coordinates financial reporting for the Department of Labor.
- Reviews and is responsible for the financial reporting records, reports, and statements to ascertain completeness and accuracy prior to preparing GAAP packages or financial statements for the Department.
- Coordinate with Department Fiscal staff to resolve discrepancies and reconcile financial transactions including fund balances, expenditures receipts with external records including Comptroller’s Office and the Treasurer’s Office.
- Serves as liaison and provides answers to external auditors, internal auditors, or the Legislative Audit Commission regarding the information provided in the GAAP packages, testifies to provide authoritative expert information on financial documents submitted.
- Monitors and ensures the completion of Comptroller SCO forms, reviews all adjusting and reclassification entries, and rolls up and verifies applicable funds applications, reviews fund packages and non-WEDGE SCO forms (ex:
Summary of Liabilities SCO-549, Grant/Contract Analysis SCO-563, and interfund payable/receivable analysis SCO-565. - Keeps abreast of new developments in the financial reporting and accounting fields.
- Reviews and coordinates with the Chief Financial Officer and Fiscal Manager on external audit reports and findings related to financial reporting and general accounting functions.
