The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated Spanish speaking individual to serve as a Switchboard Operator supporting Environmental Health Programs in the Springfield Office. The position will answer phones, maintain files, and perform general clerical functions to support Health Protection Programs and operations. Responsible for opening, sorting, date stamping, and distributing all incoming mail. The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills.

- Serve as Office switchboard operator and receptionist under direct supervision.
- Open, sort, date‑stamp, and distribute all incoming mail.
- Assist Office Programs with clerical tasks such as preparing weekly itineraries, folding letters for mass mailings, typing labels for filing, and assisting with filing.
- Assist with preparing Telephone Usage Certification forms including collecting forms and verifying staff have completed them correctly.
- Speak and write Spanish as necessary to address inquiries from Spanish‑speaking individuals.
- Attend and complete mandatory knowledge‑based and practical training required by the Office of Health Protection standard operating procedure and program requirements.
- Perform other duties as reasonably within the scope of the enumerated duties.
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school. Requires the ability to speak and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level.
