Construction Safety Director

We are partnered with a nationally recognized commercial general contractor with a strong presence in large scale retail, mixed use, industrial, and ground up commercial construction. This role will support traveling project teams across multiple regions, leading field safety efforts, driving compliance initiatives, and helping standardize safety culture across active jobsites. The position is based in the Chicago area with travel to projects throughout the country.

• Lead project specific safety planning and execution across multiple traveling construction projects
• Conduct routine jobsite audits, inspections, and safety assessments for active field operations
• Support project teams with implementation and enforcement of site specific safety programs and procedures
• Partner closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, subcontractors, and field leadership to maintain safe work environments
• Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns while driving corrective action plans
• Facilitate toolbox talks, safety orientations, training sessions, and ongoing field education
• Maintain OSHA compliance and ensure all documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping requirements are current
• Assist with preconstruction safety planning, logistics reviews, and high risk activity coordination
• Monitor subcontractor compliance related to fall protection, crane operations, excavation, lockout/tagout, and other critical scopes
• Support company wide initiatives focused on continuous improvement, risk reduction, and proactive safety culture development
• Travel regularly to jobsites throughout the Midwest and nationally depending on project needs

• 7+ years of construction safety experience with a general contractor
• Experience supporting ground up commercial construction projects required
• Strong understanding of OSHA standards, site safety procedures, and construction means and methods
• Prior experience in traveling safety roles strongly preferred
• Experience with tilt wall, structural concrete, steel erection, or large commercial projects preferred
• OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, or similar certifications preferred
• Ability to lead field safety efforts while maintaining strong working relationships with operations teams
• Strong communication, documentation, and incident investigation skills
• Comfortable working in fast paced field environments with frequent travel
