Location: Chicago, IL (GGP Chicago - 350 N Orleans Street, Suite 300)
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the SVP Construction, the Construction Manager provides construction support to the Development Department in the expansion, renovation, and/or new development projects. The Construction Manager offers technical expertise to coordinate the design process and manage on‑site construction activities. The role manages assigned construction budgets and ensures timely project delivery, while providing direction and support to mall operations and tenant coordination.
Responsibilities- Plan and attend regularly scheduled meetings with the Director of Construction and/or VP Construction.
- Submit monthly project status reports and budget forecasts on time and assist the Construction Management staff in cutting costs and improving schedules.
- Adhere to department policies, procedures, and overall company and department goals.
- Complete all annual performance goals established with supervisor.
- Proficiently use project management and scheduling software.
- Evaluate and monitor contractor and consultant performance.
- Lead the project team and support aligned team members in Property Management and Development.
- Prepare, submit, and approve contract and change order requests; review and approve payment applications and commitment requests.
- Conduct monthly regional CMAR meetings and distribute reports and updates as required.
- Prepare, review, and approve construction estimates.
- Promote best‑practice policies within the design and construction management group.
- Provide technical expertise to mall operations and tenant coordination, meeting with leasing staff as needed to review lease agreements and construction plans.
- Perform additional tasks or duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required;
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering preferred. - 5–10 years of general contractor project‑management experience; background in retail, restaurant, entertainment, hospitality, or mixed‑use construction preferred.
- Experience with construction/conceptual estimating and managing projects within an operating business environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Word, and Excel.
- Understanding of building materials, budgets, architectural design and documentation processes.
- Excellent project management, organizational, presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to resolve personnel conflicts and motivate staff.
- Proficiency in contracting with and managing outside contractors.
- 50% travel required.
Salary: $110,000 - $140,000 annual base (exempt, bi‑weekly), with annual bonus up to 20%.
