Position: Primary Care Pediatrician - Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics SMS-3736

Description

This is an academic position in the practice and teaching of primary care pediatrics to medical students, residents, and allied health professionals.

Examples of Duties Service 90%
  • Demonstrates, by actions, commitment to the mission and the behavioral standards of SIU Medicine, providing excellent service to both internal and external customers through collaboration and partnership, compassion and respect, integrity and accountability, diversity and inclusion, and continuous learning and improvement.
  • Provides clinical care to patients with a specific focus on the underserved and community health.
  • Provides quality evidence‑based medical care.
  • Provides consultation and patient care under the terms of the SIU Medicine. Meet Meaningful Use And Other Mandated Documentation Requirements.
  • Sets an example to future practitioners of a highly skilled and conscientious practice of Primary Care Pediatrics that is balanced with self‑education and other academic activities.
  • Adheres to SIU Medicine’s Standards of Service, compliance, patient satisfaction and provider communication.
  • Serves as an advocate for programs and services that improve the health and well‑being of children in Central and Southern Illinois.
  • Attends departmental faculty meetings and division meetings via electronic systems.
  • Participates in Primary Care Call pool, hospital rounding and newborn schedule.
Teaching 5%
  • Assists in the direct observation and supervision of medical students and residents in the outpatient setting.
  • Provides medical student and resident evaluation feedback per program requirements.
  • Communicates concerns with individual resident performance to the residency program director.
Research and Quality Improvement 5%
  • Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives with dedicated time for projects related to the Patient‑Centered Medical Home Initiative (PCMH) and community health.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
  • MD or equivalent degree.
  • Successful completion of an approved residency program prior to start date.
  • Board eligible in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.
  • Eligible for licensure in the State of Illinois.
  • Maintains and updates licenses and required certifications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics.
  • Experience providing primary care to underserved populations.
Supplemental Information

The budgeted annual salary range is $185,000 to $203,500, representing the academic base salary only, which is funded through the University. The final academic base salary will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget considerations. Additional clinical compensation will be provided separately through a member practice agreement
