Job Summary
Position:
Cardiac Surgeon within the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery.
- Administration (5%):
Provide expertise for trends in future development of thoracic surgery and implement new programs where appropriate for the mission of the School and affiliated hospitals. Assess manpower needs of the region for cardiothoracic surgeons and plan and develop appropriate educational programs to meet these needs including undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education. - Teaching (25%):
Work with faculty to develop educational objectives, curriculum content and delivery, and assessment for undergraduate medical education in cardiothoracic surgery. Assist in the planning and implementation of a program in cardiothoracic surgery. Organize and conduct continuing education in cardiothoracic surgery. Represent cardiothoracic surgery in educational planning throughout the School. Serve on educational committees where appropriate within the School of Medicine. - Research (15%):
Recommend areas and programs of research in cardiothoracic surgery appropriate to the needs of the faculty and mission of the Division. Provide an exemplary role model as an investigator for students, residents and faculty. Work to obtain intramural and/or extramural funds to support research in cardiothoracic surgery. - Service (55%):
Provide a role model for students and residents by maintaining a practice of high quality cardiac surgery. Provide consultative and/or diagnostic service to house staff and other physicians. Participate in assigned Departmental, Medical School and Hospital committees.
- Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
- MD license and ability to be licensed in the State of Illinois.
- Successful completion of a cardiothoracic residency and fellowship.
- Board-certified or Board-eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
- At least two years of experience as a cardiac surgeon.
Annual base salary range: $275,000 to $302,000 (academic base only). Additional clinical compensation will be provided separately through a member practice agreement.
