Position Overview

Join our collaborative Surgical Critical Care team at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, where you'll work side-by-side with experienced Trauma Surgeons and fellow APPs to deliver exceptional ICU, Trauma, General Surgery, and Acute Care Surgery.

  • Provide comprehensive care for patients in the surgical ICU under physician supervision.
  • Performing daily critical care ICU assessments, developing and implementing clinical management plans.
  • Manage ventilator, hemodynamics, sedation, analgesia and nutrition.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care coordination.
  • Perform bedside procedures including (as credentialed): central venous catheter placement, arterial line placement, chest tube insertion, bronchoscopy assistance, assistance with bedside percutaneous tracheostomy and percutaneous gastrostomy tube placement.
  • Manage trauma and emergency surgical admissions in the ICU.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging.
  • Documented encounters accurately in EMR.
  • Participate in quality improvement at patient safety initiatives, including surgical ICU morbidity and mortality conferences (once every 2 months).
  • Communicate with the patients and families regarding care plans.

Training
  • Master s or Bachelor s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies (CAHEA-accredited), or
  • Master s Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing (CCNEA-accredited)
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current Illinois license as PA or APN
  • Current NCCPA (PA) or AACC (APN) certification
  • Controlled substance licensure for prescribing
