Position: Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) reports to the Chief Quality Officer and is responsible for supporting the strategic imperatives with input from the medical staff of OSF Health Care. The VPMA fulfills these system objectives by collaborating with the leadership of the OSF Health Care medical staff, the broader medical staff, and the Medical Staff Office (MSO) department while ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and industry best practices.

The VPMA provides collaborative advice to health system leadership on medical staff-related issues such as integration, performance, wellness, and professional development. This advisory role is grounded in a deep understanding of provider culture, medical staff policies and bylaws, health system goals, industry trends, and leadership development principles.

Salary range:$193.00- $289.50, Hourly

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education:

    Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree
  • Experience:

    10 years of physician leadership experience is required, ideally including roles such as practice or department medical director.
  • Licensure/ Certification:
    An unrestricted medical license from a U.S. state board of medicine.
  • Board certification in a specialty approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
  • Other Skills/ Knowledge:
    • Proven experience in delivering significant results through direct leadership, influence, collaboration, and excellent communication skills.
    • A strong personal presence defined by unwavering ethics, integrity, intellectual honesty, and sound judgment, along with the ability to inspire and motivate others to uphold the mission, vision, goals, values, and behavioral standards of OSF Health Care, regardless of physician/provider employment affiliation.
    • A consistent, inclusive, person-centered approach that considers economic, social, gender, racial, age-related, and religious or spiritual influences.
    • A comprehensive understanding of medical staff administrative processes, including medical staff bylaws, peer review, credentialing, and governance.
    • A proactive, energetic, and personable demeanor, comfortable working closely with a diverse leadership team.
    • Strong leadership skills to foster physician engagement and practice improvement.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to manage a wide range of issues with varying complexity effectively.
    • A demonstrated ability to adapt to frequently changing work priorities while balancing the needs of a multi-site health organization.
    • Willingness to embrace change; highly adaptable to evolving business conditions and priorities. Collaborative, down-to-earth, genuine, and considerate of others.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience:

    2 years of experience in medical staff governance preferred
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Drives achievement of CMS Five Star Quality Ratings goals, Leapfrog standards, and other national, regional, and local quality benchmarks that enhance OSF Health Care's performance and reputation.
  • Provides administrative leadership to the Medical Staff Office (MSO) and Credentialing Verification Organization (CVO) teams.
  • Oversees the credentialing function, including the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of core credentialing processes.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with all applicable accrediting bodies related to medical staff functions.
  • Manages the medical affairs budget by allocating resources strategically to support organizational priorities and maintain financial sustainability.
  • Supports the organized medical staff by facilitating effective execution of responsibilities outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws.
