Job Summary
Make an impact by helping students unlock their full potential! The Learning Specialist provides individualized academic support across disciplines by teaching effective learning strategies that strengthen study skills, academic confidence, and overall course success. The position helps students navigate essential academic technologies, delivers workshops promoting college success, and collaborates with faculty and campus partners to support student learning. Flexible support is offered in person, online, and at outreach centers to ensure equitable access for all students.

Duration: 11 months (scheduled unpaid breaks of two weeks between spring and summer, and two weeks between summer and fall). 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday; one evening per week extended to 6:00 p.m. Remote work:

Salary: $51,498–$59,888 per year, commensurate with education, training, experience, and skills.
Benefits: 23 paid holidays per year, two weeks at year‑end, one week in March for mid‑semester break, 12 Fridays off in summer, 2 personal days, 15 sick days, 15 vacation days (starting). Tuition waiver for staff, spouse, and qualified dependent children, free access to on‑campus fitness center.

- Conduct individualized learning assessments to identify each student’s needs, goals, and barriers; collaborate with students to determine next steps, strengthen learning habits, promote accountability, and connect them with appropriate resources.
- Provide holistic academic support by teaching and modeling effective college‑level learning strategies, time management, reading strategies, test preparation, and other success techniques to build independent confident learners.
- Assist students in applying learning strategies to specific course content, providing tutoring across various disciplines, reviewing assignments, reinforcing foundational academic skills, and engaging students in active participation.
- Support students in navigating essential learning technologies—LMS (e.g., Canvas), digital course materials, publisher platforms, and online tools—to ensure effective engagement with coursework.
- Incorporate accessibility‑conscious practices by offering alternative learning approaches, adapted study strategies, supported reading, or similar instructional methods.
- Design, prepare, and deliver workshops, seminars, and class presentations—both general and content‑specific—to promote academic success skills and increase awareness of Learning Center resources.
- Collaborate with faculty to understand student learning challenges, align academic support practices with course expectations, and maintain consistent communication to enhance student progress across disciplines.
- Maintain accurate availability in the college’s scheduling platform and prompt updates of changes or cancellations.
- Use Microsoft Teams and other internal communication tools to coordinate with colleagues and communicate with students regarding appointments.
- Promote Learning Center programs and services through outreach, events, presentations, and active engagement in campus initiatives.
- Student‑centered approach to service; ability to conduct holistic assessments and promote growth mindset.
- Ability to tutor across a wide range of disciplines, including sciences, social sciences, humanities, workforce, and more.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer‑service, and communication skills; ability to work with diverse populations.
- Detail orientation, leadership, conflict resolution, analytical, multitasking, and time‑management skills; ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Basic knowledge of computer word processing, Microsoft Office, and willingness to embrace new technology to enhance student support.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Teaching or tutoring experience at the high school or collegiate level.
- Strong work ethic and understanding of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with students, faculty, and administration.
