TITLE OF VACANCY: ASL World Language Teacher
LOCATION: Southeast, Springfield, Lanphier High Schools (potentially traveling positions)
CONTRACT PERIOD: 180 day school calendar for school year
REPORT TO: Building Principal
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s License with a high school endorsement
- Demonstrate proficiency in ASL in an interview or provide test scores of 3+ on ASLPI or intermediate+ for SLPI
- Experience or willingness to collaborate with other teachers
- Provide accessible learning opportunities for all students while teaching ASL and Deaf culture
- Responsible for passionately providing instruction in the field of American Sign Language; utilizing the curriculum provided by District 186, promoting student progress, and managing a safe positive classroom environment.
- Use technology as a means to support the work of teachers and students.
- Cooperate in carrying out school district rules and regulations.
- Provide differentiated instruction.
- Implement best practice instructional strategies to support content areas.
- Willingness to empower students with diverse learning needs to reach their full potential.
- Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the world language instructional philosophy and congruent with the course curriculum.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing feedback and support to help students achieve their learning goals.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ASL, as a special interest group under world languages, and Deaf culture.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the World Language Instructional Supervisor, Department Chair, or appropriate Administrator.
