Assists teachers, students, and parents with interpreting and translating between the native language and English. Serves as a liaison between the native language community and the school in helping each to understand the needs and the services of the school. Performs EL Interpreter Bilingual Aide tasks as assigned by the teacher and approved by the Assistant Director for Student Services, English Learners and District Equity.

Qualifications
  • Ability to work with linguistically and culturally diverse students.
  • Fluency in a language other than English and the ability to communicate effectively and fluently in English and Ukrainian, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Should be detailed, thorough, industrious, have knowledge of school procedures, and show evidence of successful experience in working with students.
  • Exhibit personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
  • High School Graduate, or equivalent.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interpret verbal and translate written communication for students, teachers, and parents.
  • Assist teachers in organizing and implementing instruction for students to improve academic success.
  • Administer tests, homework, make‑up work, and other assessments to design strategies based on individual student needs.
  • Instruct students individually or in groups, providing lesson activities and assignments to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Assist in maintaining records such as forms, student profile cards, attendance records, to keep references up to date and comply with EL program requirements.
  • Monitor individual and group activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Encourage students to exhibit behaviors and study habits that lead to academic success.
  • Consult with teachers, counselors, nurses, attendance office, and administrators as required to convey information regarding student activities and progress.
  • Serve as a liaison between parents, students, and the school, explaining policies, procedures, support systems, programs, community resources, and instructional goals.
  • Assist school staff in understanding the culture and traditions of the native language when differences affect learning.
  • Model positive attitudes and a strong work ethic for students and staff, displaying professional and ethical behavior.
  • Attend meetings and staff development programs when requested.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Perform any duties within the scope of employment as assigned by teacher, principal, building coordinator, or district coordinator, unless prohibited by law or regulation.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Bilingual in English and Ukrainian with proficiency in reading, writing, interpreting, and translation.
  • Ability to write professional communications.
  • Ability to respond to questions from individuals and groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with others.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must meet physical demands required for the role, with accommodations for disabilities where necessary.
  • Regularly sit, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently stand, walk, operate duplicating machines and computer equipment, and repeat hand motions such as typing.
  • Requires close vision and ability to adjust focus, and to use video display terminals for extended periods.
  • May occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Work environment is usually moderate noise level.
