Role Description The Special Education Teacher role is a full-time, on-site position based in Springfield, IL. The individual in this role will design and deliver individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with diverse learning needs, ensuring instruction aligns with state standards and district policies. Daily responsibilities include adapting curriculum materials, implementing specialized instructional strategies, monitoring student progress, and maintaining accurate documentation.

The Special Education Teacher will collaborate closely with general education teachers, support staff, and administrators, and will participate in IEP meetings and parent/guardian conferences. The role also involves creating an inclusive classroom environment, managing behavior supports, and advocating for appropriate accommodations and services for each student.
Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of Special Education, including experience working with students with a range of disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Demonstrated Teaching skills with middle school learners, including lesson planning, differentiated instruction, and classroom management.
  • Effective Communication skills for collaborating with students, families, multidisciplinary teams, and school leadership.
  • Valid state teaching license or certification in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain), preferably with middle school endorsement.
  • Experience developing and implementing IEPs, using assessment data to guide instruction, and maintaining compliant documentation.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations (IDEA, Section 504) and best practices in inclusive and trauma-informed education.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related education field; advanced degree is an asset.
  • Ability to build supportive relationships with students, maintain a safe classroom environment, and use evidence-based behavioral supports.
