Job DescriptionTITLE OF VACANCY

High School Drama Director
LOCATION: Southeast High School
CONTRACT PERIOD: 180 Days
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
The High School Drama Director is responsible for developing, directing, and maintaining a high-quality
theatrical arts program that provides students with meaningful opportunities to develop skills in acting,
directing, technical theater, stagecraft, communication, collaboration, creativity, and leadership.
REQUIREMENTS/
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Illinois PEL (Professional Educator's License) and an endorsement in Drama/Theater Arts for High School
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated knowledge of theater, drama, and performing arts.
- Commitment to providing an inclusive and student-centered program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach students fundamental and advanced skills in acting, improvisation, voice, movement, character development, script analysis, and theatrical performance.
- Provide opportunities for students to develop technical theater skills, including set design, construction, lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, props, and stage management.
- Select appropriate theatrical productions in consultation with school administration.
- Direct rehearsals and performances in a professional and organized manner.
- Establish clear expectations for student participation, attendance, preparation, and conduct.
- Coordinate auditions, casting, callbacks, and rehearsal assignments.
- Supervise students during rehearsals, performances, competitions, trips, and theater-related activities.
- Coordinate technical production elements, including sets, props, costumes, lighting, sound, and stage management.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents/guardians, and community partners.
- Promote a positive and inclusive theater culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
