Position: Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor, Engineering Technology (up to 3 positions)

Engineering Technology Faculty Positions

The University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for three inaugural faculty positions in Engineering Technology to launch the Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Technology (BAS-ET), beginning Fall 2027. These positions will form the founding faculty cohort and will collectively deliver the core curriculum, establish the work-based learning sequence with regional employers, and prepare for ABET ETAC accreditation. We are seeking candidates whose expertise spans applied engineering technology.

Preferred areas of expertise include automation, robotics, and industrial controls; engineering design, CAD/CAM, and manufacturing systems; systems integration, project management, and applied engineering practice; materials, measurement, and quality systems; and work-based learning coordination and industry partnership development. Significant industry experience is strongly preferred. A mix of tenure-track and non-tenure track hires is anticipated.

Responsibilities:

Teaching: Faculty will deliver core coursework in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Technology. Teaching assignments will be determined based on each faculty member's expertise and the collective needs of the founding cohort.

Service: All faculty are expected to contribute to the development and growth of the BAS-ET program and the School of Applied Engineering through active participation in program-level, college-level, and university service. Service responsibilities include participation in the program's industry advisory board, including development and maintenance of employer relationships for work-based learning placements; community college partnership development, including articulation agreement planning and transfer pathway coordination;

ABET ETAC accreditation preparation, self-study documentation, and continuous improvement processes; K-12 pipeline engagement, including support for the techX dual-credit program at the Capital Area Career Center; student recruitment activities, including prospective student outreach, campus visit participation, and community college advising events; and standard college and university committee service as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in engineering, engineering technology, engineering education, manufacturing, applied science, or a closely related STEM discipline Minimum five years of substantial professional industry experience in an engineering or technical leadership role Demonstrated ability or potential to teach in applied, hands-on, lab-intensive learning environments Commitment to work-based learning and employer-integrated education

Preferred Qualifications :

Experience with ABET-accredited programs or accreditation processes Experience with community college transfer student populations Experience designing or coordinating cooperative education, internship, or work-based learning programs Expertise in one or more: automation, robotics, and industrial controls; engineering design, CAD/CAM, and manufacturing systems; systems integration and project management; materials, measurement, and quality systems
