This role is accountable for conducting on‑site inspections and desk reviews of departmental compliance with relevant laws, policies, directives, and processes. The incumbent assists the Southern Construction Quality Engineer in ensuring that construction inspections, documentation, and material quality meet project requirements and departmental policies. The position also requires interpreting contract language, plan documents, material designs, testing reports, and other relevant documents for state and federally funded projects.
EssentialFunctions
- Conduct on‑site inspections and compliance reviews to ensure proper documentation and adherence to applicable rules and regulations related to the Highway Improvement Program.
- Develop and execute testing techniques to verify the accuracy of contractor payments, document results, and report findings.
- Compile information for Investigative Summary Reports, providing recommendations and submitting reports to the Southern Construction Quality Engineer for processing.
- Perform duties in compliance with departmental safety rules and promote equitable treatment of all employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Illinois or as a Licensed Structural Engineer in Illinois.
- Four years of civil engineering experience.
- Experience in transportation construction and material inspection.
- Experience with construction documentation.
- Proficiency in creating and maintaining spreadsheets, databases, and documents.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Successful background screening required.
- Frequent statewide travel, including occasional overnight stays, required.
- Compliance with revolving‑door restrictions per 5 ILCS 430/5‑45.
- Obligation to file an annual Statement of Economic Interest under section 4A‑101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act.
