Automated Systems, Inc. (ASI) is seeking a Senior Automation Controls Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of process automation and control systems across pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing environments.
This is an excellent opportunity to own projects from concept through startup, work directly with clients, and apply your expertise in PLC/SCADA systems to deliver high-impact automation solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of PLC, SCADA, and control system applications of varying complexity
- Define requirements and develop detailed functional and software design specifications
- Program and configure PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, historians, and thin client/server architectures
- Support system integration, startup, commissioning, and qualification activities
- Troubleshoot and optimize existing control systems and process loops
- Evaluate and recommend alternative technical solutions
- Collaborate directly with clients to define scope, timelines, and deliverables
- Travel regionally (approximately 10–25%) as project needs require
- Hands-on experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley platforms (Control Logix, PLC5, SLC
500, Panel View Plus, RSView/Factory Talk, RSBizWare, RSBatch) - Experience with additional PLC platforms (Siemens, GE, Modicon) and SCADA/HMI systems (iFix, Wonderware, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of control networks (Ethernet/IP, Control Net, Device Net)
- Experience troubleshooting and optimizing process control systems
- Understanding of GMP environments and validation practices
- Knowledge of ISA-88 Batch standards and batch system implementation preferred
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Valid driver’s license required
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or related Engineering field
- 6+ years of relevant automation/controls engineering experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Pharmaceutical or biotech validation experience preferred
- Prior leadership or project ownership experience
