We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineer (Static/Fixed) to support the operational performance, efficiency, and reliability of a U.S.
-based nitrogen fertilizer plant. This role focuses on developing, evaluating, and executing plant projects and modifications that enhance safety, environmental compliance, mechanical integrity, and overall plant efficiency.
The position provides the opportunity to lead cross‑functional projects, interface with vendors and contractors, and directly influence the plant’s performance and long‑term operational excellence.
Responsibilities- Project Development & Execution: Lead the design, evaluation, and implementation of capital projects and plant modifications. Manage project scope, budgeting, scheduling, and ensure successful execution.
- Technical Leadership: Provide guidance and supervision to peers, contractors, and project teams. Act as a technical consultant for plant operations and maintenance, supporting problem-solving and repair activities.
- Process Improvement: Propose new work procedures and efficiency improvements. Assist in the development of Key Process Indicators (KPIs) and other process monitoring tools.
- Cross‑Functional Coordination: Collaborate with Safety, Environmental, Operations, Maintenance, Accounting, and Purchasing teams to ensure projects meet business needs and compliance requirements.
- Vendor & Consultant Management: Interface with outside vendors, contractors, and industry groups. Evaluate technology, develop equipment specifications, and participate in bid selection.
- Safety & Compliance: Participate in equipment inspections, process safety reviews, process hazard analyses, and facility turnarounds, including 24‑hour shift coverage when needed.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive performance improvements in plant productivity, reliability, and operating excellence. Communicate progress, challenges, and recommendations to supervisors regularly.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Minimum 5+ years engineering experience in the oil, gas, or chemical industries.
- Experience leading technical or project teams.
- Experience with capital and operating cost estimating and economic analysis.
- Knowledge of mechanical integrity programs and process safety management (PSM) preferred.
- Strong analytical, reasoning, and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs, including turnaround or emergency support.
- Exposure to potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
- Work in both office settings and plant environments, requiring strict adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
