Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Market team in Chicago, IL, Springfield, IL, or St. Louis, MO. This full‑time position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation, site development, water resources, and other infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will apply geotechnical engineering principles to support planning, design, and construction efforts across multiple markets.
Key Responsibilities- Perform geotechnical investigations, including planning, field exploration, laboratory testing coordination, and data reduction.
- Prepare geotechnical reports, foundation recommendations, slope stability analyses, and settlement evaluations.
- Support design of foundations, retaining structures, embankments for roadways and railways, flood control systems and pavement systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, structural, and environmental engineers.
- Assist with construction support services such as submittal reviews, field observations, and problem resolution.
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, and project coordination activities.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical development within the team.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering required.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in geotechnical engineering.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Experience working on geotechnical projects in transportation corridors, site development, facilities and water/wastewater systems preferred.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Geo Studio, LPILE, SLIDE, PLAXIS, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with subsurface exploration techniques and laboratory testing standards.
- Strong understanding of soil‑structure interaction and geotechnical design principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and technical report writing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel for field assignments and client meetings.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Collaborate remotely and in-person with colleagues across multiple offices.

Salary range: $85,000 - $120,000
