Senior Structural Engineer Leader – Municipal & Utilities

An established civil/environmental engineering and surveying firm is expanding its Architecture & Engineering support services. Originally founded on water/wastewater expertise, the firm now provides traditional Civil/Site design, Watershed Resources, and Utility Infrastructure Rehabilitation. The firm serves over 80 municipalities across northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

We are seeking a Chief Structural Engineer to lead and grow the Structural Engineering practice as part of a new high-caliber multidisciplinary team of architects, structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide overall leadership for structural engineering projects from conceptual design through construction phase services.
• Build, mentor, and manage a growing team of structural engineers and technicians.
• Lead high-quality structural design for a wide range of projects, including:
• Municipal buildings (police stations, fire stations, public works facilities)
• Water/wastewater treatment structures and utility infrastructure
• Civil/site development structures and watershed resource projects
• Building additions, renovations, and adaptive reuse
• Perform quality assurance/quality control on all structural deliverables.
• Manage client relationships, present to municipal boards and elected officials.
• Drive business development, proposal preparation, and marketing of structural services.
• Oversee project schedules, budgets, and team productivity.
• Coordinate closely with architects and other engineering disciplines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Illinois and/or Wisconsin (or ability to obtain quickly).
• Minimum 12–15 years of progressive structural engineering experience, with at least 5 years in leadership.
• Strong background serving municipal clients.

• Expertise in IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, and related standards.
• Proficient with structural analysis software (ETABS, SAP
  2000, RISA, etc.).
• Experience with construction administration, floodplain considerations, and regulatory coordination.
