Position Overview

This position is accountable for developing, drafting, and publishing the Highway Standards Drawings.

Essential Functions

* Develops, prepares, and publishes the Highway Standard Drawings.

* Provides liaison for contractors, manufacturers, and material associations.

* Makes presentations to explain new/revised standards.

* Directs, organizes, develops, and motivates personnel to accomplish department objectives in the Standards and Specifications Unit.

* Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.

* Five years of experience in civil engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

* Supervisory experience.

* Working knowledge of construction concepts.

* Working knowledge of CADD.

* Strong written and oral communication skills.

Conditions of Employment

* Valid driver's license.

* Physical ability to work around construction and plant sites where items may not be easily accessible, such as bending and climbing.

* Statewide and occasional out-of-state travel with overnight stays.

* Successful completion of a background screening.
