Operations Manager
Job Summary
Manage transmission, substation, distribution, gas, and information technology projects through cross‑functional teams. Responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and safety performance of multiple projects with budgets ranging from $250,000 to $15 million. Leads teams through business case and capital approval processes, development and execution of project plans, and project closeout. May also manage business initiative projects with direct accountability for execution, limited resources, and time‑constrained objectives.
PrimaryDuties
- Accountable for overall project performance for major transmission, substation, distribution, gas construction, new technology programs, IT, and organizational initiatives.
- Manage project costs, schedule, and scope, including development of recovery plans to keep within approved limits.
- Interface with external and internal stakeholders to coordinate project requirements.
- Communicate with sponsors and key stakeholders on project issues, presenting at executive level and across departments.
- Ensure productive relationships between the project team, line managers, and interfacing organizations.
- Coach and lead team members to complete assigned tasks.
- Identify and secure project team resources.
- Ensure team members understand their respective responsibilities.
The Project Manager is an individual contributor accountable for project budgets and team performance, and for developing strategic plans to implement projects across the organization. Responsibilities include completing business cases, securing budgetary approvals, scheduling, requirements engineering, design and engineering tasks, vegetation management reviews, reporting, financial analysis, major equipment procurement, environmental analysis, real‑estate and relationship management with external customers, vendors, townships, and regulatory agencies, quality assurance, and change management.
Interacts routinely with senior management, key customers, and governmental and regulatory officials.
- Construction PM:
Bachelor’s in engineering or related field with 4‑7 years relevant experience, or High School Diploma with 6‑9 years relevant experience. - Non‑construction PM:
Bachelor’s in business, engineering, or related field with 4‑7 years relevant experience, or High School Diploma with 6‑9 years relevant experience. - Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or attainment of CAPM within two years (PMP satisfies this requirement).
- Demonstrated success at managing projects.
- Ability to work independently and as a team leader, handling conflicting priorities in a multitask environment.
- Strong independent judgment, interpersonal, and time‑management skills.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal automobile.
- Master’s degree in engineering or business administration.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Professional Engineer license.
- Experience or knowledge of DER, solar, or battery in utility design, planning, or construction.
- Annual salary $100,800 – $138,600, based on qualifications and experience.
