Responsibilities
The Environmental Engineer shall provide expert technical and litigation support to ensure compliance with the Illinois Environmental Protection Act, its associated rules and regulations, federal environmental statutes, technical and safety standards, and Court and Illinois Pollution Control Board orders. The engineer will participate in meetings and discussions with defendants to develop compliance plans, review engineering reports, assist in discovery, give depositions, provide expert testimony, evaluate feasibility of compliance plans, monitor implementation, assess process hazard analyses and risk management programs, approve scopes of work, and conduct engineering inspections of facilities and landfills.
Position requires in‑office attendance and the ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the public.
QualificationsRequired licensing as a professional engineer or professional geologist in the State of Illinois, or 10 years of environmental engineering experience, plus working knowledge of the Illinois Environmental Protection Act and its regulations. Familiarity with the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Superfund Amendments and Re‑authorization Act, and the Code of Federal Regulations is required, with a working knowledge of environmental chemistry, geology, hydrogeology, chemical engineering, technical standards applicable to solid waste treatment, remediation investigations, EPA test methods, air pollution control technology, and wastewater engineering.
