Southern Construction Quality Specialist
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Southern Construction Quality Specialist. This position is accountable for conducting on-site inspections and desk reviews of departmental compliance with relevant laws, policies, directives, and processes. This position also assists the Southern Construction Quality Engineer in assuring that construction inspection, documentation, and the quality of materials are in compliance with project requirements and departmental policies and procedures.
Additionally, this position requires the ability to interpret contract language, plan documents, material designs and testing, and other relevant documents for state and federally funded projects.
Essential Functions:
- Conducts on-site inspections and compliance reviews to ensure proper documentation and compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the delivery of the Highway Improvement Program.
- Develops and executes a variety of testing techniques to ensure the accuracy of payments to contractors and documents and reports results.
- Compiles information for Investigative Summary Reports to document adherence to applicable rules and regulations.
- Provides recommendations and submits the report to the Southern Construction Quality Engineer for processing.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
- Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Four years of experience in civil engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in transportation construction and material inspection.
- Experience with construction documentation.
- Ability to effectively create and maintain spreadsheets, databases, and documents.
- Ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
Conditions of Employment:
- Requires a valid driver's license.
- Requires successful completion of a background screening.
- Requires frequent statewide travel which may include some overnight stays.
