Work Zone Safety Engineer (Civil Engineer V)
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Work Zone Safety Engineer. This position is responsible for directing and administering statewide work zone safety and mobility programs for all public highways and streets in Illinois. This includes developing policies, procedures, standards, specifications, and other technical resources in order to meet federal requirements for work zone safety and mobility, improve the active management of construction and maintenance work zones, and improve safety for motorists and workers.
The incumbent is responsible for reviewing and approving transportation management plans submitted by district operations and program development staff, performing work zone traffic control reviews, and providing statewide training relative to work zone safety and mobility. This position will provide administrative oversight and manage the department's Traffic Control Field Manual and other associated manuals and policies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
- Five years of experience in civil engineering.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience planning and development of highway engineering work.
- Knowledge and experience with traffic engineering, work zone safety and mobility, worker safety, queuing analysis, and crash statistics analysis.
- Knowledge of modern methods and procedures of public works construction and maintenance operations.
