Packaging Engineer

Round Lake, IL (Onsite; potential for remote work up to 2 days/week)

We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to support sustaining engineering activities within a pharmaceutical R&D organization. This role will focus on maintaining and improving existing product packaging and packaging processes, with priorities centered around quality and compliance, continuity of supply, and cost improvement initiatives.

• Lead and/or support packaging engineering projects, including Quality/CAPA initiatives, regulatory compliance activities, supplier change notifications, cost savings projects, and new product introductions across domestic and international manufacturing facilities.
• Manage projects of moderate complexity and scope while effectively prioritizing and executing multiple projects with minimal supervision.
• Develop testing protocols and support change control activities while collaborating with cross-functional teams, manufacturing sites, and suppliers.
• Evaluate, approve, and optimize packaging materials and systems to improve product performance, reduce costs, and enhance manufacturing processes.
• Research and recommend new packaging materials, technologies, and suppliers to support business needs.

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or a related engineering discipline such as Mechanical, Chemical, or Biomedical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in packaging engineering or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of packaging materials, processes, problem-solving techniques, statistical methods, and design of experiments.
• Experience with packaging development methodologies, change control processes, and engineering documentation.
