Overview
In this role, as Unicorn’s first finance and accounting hire, you will be responsible for full end-to-end accounting responsibilities, including bookkeeping, leading the month-end close, implementing internal controls and policies, coordinating with outside firms on relevant tax filings, and partnering with the Chief of Staff in building a robust in-house accounting and financial reporting infrastructure as we grow.

Initially, this role will be an individual contributor role. The right candidate will have an extremely high attention to detail and organization, strike a balance between operational and technical accounting skills, and demonstrate expertise in analyzing and leveraging financial data to support decision-making and scale manual processes over time.
Responsibilities- Manage and enhance the month end close process and own timely financial reporting - experience working across multiple entities is a plus
- Manage AP, and AR, and other daily / weekly accounting operations including daily funding wires and fund flow
- Alongside the Chief of Staff, drive financial planning, forecasting, and analysis that support strategic decision-making and optimize company performance
- Own revenue recognition policy and ensure revenue reporting and other key portfolio, equity and SBC accounting are done in compliance with US GAAP standards
- Manage external tax firms alongside the Chief of Staff
- Ensure appropriate processing of, and accounting for, all cash transactions, payroll processing, and inter-company transactions (you love working with cash flow statements!)
- 5+ years of professional experience in accounting, with 2+ years of experience in a position equivalent to managing and overseeing end-to-end accounting month end activities and owning complete financial reporting
- Experience with accounting and expense management software, such as QBO, Netsuite, , Expensify, Ramp, or equivalent systems
- Exceptional work ethic, strong individual contributor; experience in marketplace businesses a strong plus
- Strong problem solving and collaboration skills
This role is in-person, five days a week at our Ravenswood office in Chicago
