Our client is a well-established, family-owned construction equipment dealership with multiple locations and a long-standing reputation in the industry. With decades of operational history and recent significant growth, the company is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead and centralize its accounting and finance functions.
This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who enjoys building structure, improving processes, and supporting a business in expansion mode. Ownership maintains a laid-back, non-micromanagement style and values autonomy, accountability, and long-term employee relationships. The right candidate will play a key role in helping the organization scale effectively while maintaining strong financial controls. This position also offers long-term growth potential, including a path toward a future CFO opportunity.
This role can be based out of either the Frankfort, IL or Gurnee, IL location on an hybrid basis.
Position OverviewThe Controller will oversee all accounting operations across multiple locations, including financial reporting, inventory and floorplan accounting, cash flow management, internal controls, and strategic planning. A key objective of this role is to centralize accounting and finance responsibilities that are currently distributed across multiple team members into one cohesive function.
Key Responsibilities- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare consolidated financial statements
- Oversee inventory accounting, costing, and floorplan financing
- Manage cash flow forecasting, lender reporting, and covenant compliance
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls across all locations
- Drive budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis
- Standardize accounting processes and improve efficiencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA required
- 5+ years experience
- Experience in construction equipment, heavy equipment, automotive dealership, or other inventory-intensive industries strongly preferred
- Strong GAAP knowledge
- Advanced Excel skills and ERP/dealership system experience
