Position Overview

Team Lead Portfolio Management, Commercial Banking manages the administration of a sizable commercial banking portfolio and supports commercial banking teams in new business initiatives. Responsibilities include supervising a team of Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts and overseeing the portfolio, which consists of all types of commercial loans—including lines of credit, term notes, and commercial mortgages—with an aggregate balance of $500 MM plus.

Responsibilities
  • Assign, manage, and prioritize ongoing workflow, mentor Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts through audits and feedback, and develop employees via 1:1 interactions, career planning, and timely feedback.
  • Serve as liaison with assigned commercial banking teams, ensuring new business activities are prioritized while portfolio management responsibilities (renewals, annual reviews, covenant testing, reporting exceptions, documentation exceptions, etc.) are managed per bank policies.
  • Directly manage a small portfolio of the most complex and important accounts, including gathering, analyzing, and testing financial data, underwriting annual reviews and renewals, performing covenant testing verifications, managing reporting and documentation exceptions, and ensuring accurate risk rating.
  • Review credit approval presentations of Portfolio Managers and Credit Analysts, focusing on data accuracy, risk mitigation, and governance of credit based on risk profile.
  • Provide quality control in the underwriting process by reviewing work and giving feedback to maintain comprehensive and accurate underwriting documents before supervisor review.
  • Act as primary point of contact between commercial credit and lending teams for new business pipelines and portfolio management activities, ensuring lending relationships align with bank’s risk tolerance and portfolio management expectations are met.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Formal credit training from a respected bank, with a strong understanding of general credit and risk principles, mitigations, and banking policies/procedures.
  • 10+ years’ commercial credit experience with knowledge of the banking environment, products, and supporting processes and technology.
  • Experience managing a team preferred but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills.
  • Proven ability to manage tasks efficiently and timely.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish client relationships and work collaboratively within a team.
