Police Officer applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Driver’s License: Must have valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon hiring.
- Age Requirements: Applicants must be under the age of 35 at the time of application and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted, unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioners’ Act. Applicants must be 20 years of age as they file their application. Applicants shall have attained their 21st birthday prior to appointment as a probationary police officer.
Proof of birth date will be required at time of application. - Education: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character.
- Testing: Must be able to participate and successfully complete all stages of the testing process.
- Vision: Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20, normal peripheral vision, no impairment of color blindness.
- P.O.W.E.R. Card: P.O.W.E.R. Card is not needed to take the written test. If your score qualifies you to make the final list, you will be contacted to perform the P.O.W.E.R. test
- Work hours: Applicant must be able to regularly work twelve hour shifts with the possibility of working other hours/shifts as needed. Must also be able to work weekends and holidays.
Applicants must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 6:00P for their application to be considered.
Registration begins at 5:45P.
Doors will be locked at 6:00P. An orientation will precede the written examination. The orientation and written examination will take place at the Montgomery Police Department

You must bring your Driver’s License with you to complete registration and take the exam.
Examination results will be compiled to create the initial eligibility list.
