UChicago Medicine Medical Group
, as a Medical Assistant at our River East clinic. The role is 100% onsite and requires residence in the greater Chicagoland area. Located in Chicago’s Streeterville neighborhood, UChicago Medicine River East is a state‑of‑the‑art outpatient center offering a wide range of services, including infusion, lab, radiology, CT, MRI, mammography, X‑ray, DEXA, and ultrasound.

Responsibilities
  • Fulfills patient‑care responsibilities: checking schedules, guiding patients to exam rooms, assisting with transfers and dressing, collecting specimens, preparing patients for exams, collecting patient history, performing screenings, assisting physicians/nurses, charting, relaying instructions, answering calls, and providing pertinent information.
  • Handles clerical duties: sending/receiving medical records, obtaining lab/X‑ray reports, completing forms, scheduling appointments, billing/coding (if required), verifying insurance, collecting co‑pays, and updating charts.
  • Maintains environment: setting up instruments, cleaning exam rooms, sterilizing equipment, maintaining sterilizer logs, ordering supplies, and restocking rooms.
  • Supports organization: upholding patient rights, responding to emergency codes, reporting issues to supervisor.
  • Performs clinical medical‑assisting tasks per state law, including asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping, vital sign checks, drug administration (injections, immunizations), prescription verification, minor surgery assistance, biohazard disposal, therapeutic modalities, patient instruction, laboratory procedures, OSHA guidelines, quality control, CLIA‑waived testing, specimen handling, ECG setup, and first aid.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a certified Medical Assistant program.
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Phlebotomy training; phlebotomist license and experience, if required.
  • Minimum one year of recent experience in a medical office or facility.
  • Experience with practice specialty.
  • Ability to collaborate with small to large practice groups.
  • Certified Medical Assistant.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent verbal communication, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with PC (Excel, Word) and EPIC.
  • Computerized appointment scheduling experience.
  • Ability to handle stress in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Discretion, tact, and courtesy in sensitive patient interactions.
  • Physical ability to perform stocking, lifting, and transporting supplies.
  • Experience in Dermatology, Urology, and/or ENT.
Position Details
  • Job Type/FTE:
    Full‑Time 1.0 FTE.
  • Shift: Days – 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

    Onsite – River East.

Work schedule:

approximately 40 hours per week, primarily day shift. The employee will be scheduled 90% at River East Clinic and 10% at various off‑site locations. Weekend (Saturday) work may occur once a month.
